Satanic symbols and meanings
Inverted Pentagram/ Pentagram:
The pentagram is the five pointed star with one point facing up. The symbol is used in paganism, witchcraft, freemasonry and gnosticism. It represents to pagans the four elements of the material universe, plus spirit, and also man, representing the four limbs and head. So it is used in honour and worship of nature and man. In satanism this symbol is inverted upside down to represent the rebellion and subversion of man and is known as "Sigil of Baphomet". It has two points facing up, instead of one, which then also represents the Goat Demon, baphomet, azazel, Satan. The inverted pentagram represents Satan. Leviathan Cross:
Found in the satanic bible, it is also known as the Cathar Cross, the bottom of the cross is a figure 8 on its side symbolising infinity as a snake eating its own tail. Surging out from that is a double cross symbolising heaven and earth. Upside Down Cross:
The Cross represents Christ and his crucifixion. In Satanism this is turned upside down in order to mock or dishonour Christ and his death. It is and act of disrespect and distain, for Christ, and an honouring of the opposing force to Christ, which is in rebellion to God, rather than submission and obedience. The central teaching in satanism is to do your own will, rather than God's, so this symbolises a rejection to God's will. Thaumaturgic Triangle:
Used for purposes such as spell casting or summoning up demons. Satanists will often mark out a triangular area with symbols or 'powered' (cursed) items to draw in demonic power. This can be of any size in any area, with items on each point. |
