OTS Analysis
To try and make our opening title sequence the best it can be we have looked at a number of different horror film opening title sequences and pulled apart the aspects of the sequence that we can incorporate into our opening title sequence.
The Ring
This opening title sequence to The Ring has a young female character at the start. I think this is to attract the male audience. At the beginning she gets scared because the television came on as she was in the kitchen. She think its her friend playing a trick on her, then she finds the remote and gets even more concerned. As the OTS continues the character continues to get even more scared. When she gets up to the television we expect a jump scare because the camera angle and the reflection on the screen of the television suggests something will happen that is more drastic with the wide view in the scene. This happens again with the fridge as we can see down the hall behind her. Both of these lead onto and link to something else like for example with the fridge she hears a noise down the corridor that eventually leads her to her despise. Sound effects like when she is walking in the puddle makes it really effective as it adds an added layer of creepiness. There is some dialogue in this. When there is it seems to make the scene even more scary as it consolidates that she is alone.

The Women In Black
The Woman in Black opening title starts with three little girls playing with china dolls and china play sets. Throughout the scene, nursery rhyme style music plays in the background which gets louder as the girls walk towards the window and there is no dialogue which makes the scene more effective. Also, the music increases in volume as the girls walk towards the window that they proceed to jump out of. The music finally cuts out when the mum of the 3 children screams when she sees that they have jumped. This is because the absence of dialogue makes the music more tension building. This is different to The Ring (2002) because the opening sequence includes a lot of dialogue between the two teenagers. This a different style introducing a horror film, but both work effectively.

Insidious
Insidious is a very effective opening title sequence as it features creepy music at the start that builds up towards the end and uses red titles for names and the main title insidious, there are no other colours as its all in black and white making it scarier and very effective to watch as it builds up suspense. As the music gradually builds up so does the tension which makes the music key to the chilling horror effect. There are different camera effects which make the OTS scarier and horrifying.

Sinister
Sinister's opening title sequence is effective as the music builds during the scene, you can hear the video being played from scratchy sounds and then it shows a family being hung from a tree in their garden. The static of the tape builds towards the end and then the title shows up in the right-hand corner and then cuts out and goes blank which is the end of the opening title sequence.

Sinister use a old projector and film reel to create a spine chilling effect. In the beginning there are people with nooses around there neck, if you look carefully you can see theres a saw which slowly cuts the tree branch. This is effective because they build the clip up very slowly and at the end they freeze it and add the because the people are dead and still. There isn't any music theres just noises of the camera and faint screams, this is effective because you think somethings go to make you just but its just a title. In are OTS we will definitely include this to add the effect your never safe. Insidious (2010) is very different to Sinister because they use still images and quite but terrifying music. They also use a small clip at the begin of the demon where as in Sinister you don't see anyone except the people being hung.
